Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, popularly known as (PM-KISAN) scheme completes one year today (24th February, 2020). Government had started the scheme with a view to increase the income of farmers by offering income support to all landholding farmers’ families across India. Under PM-Kisan yojana an amount of Rs.6000 per year is distributed in three equal installments of Rs.2000 directly into the farmers’ bank accounts. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had formally launched the scheme on 24th February 2019 at a grand function in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.
PM-Kisan initially provided income support to all Small & Marginal Farmers’ families all over the country, having cultivable land up to two hectares. Later its ambit was expanded w.e.f. 1st June 2019 to cover all farmer families in India irrespective of the size of their landholdings. The government also made special provisions for the North-East States where land ownership rights are community-based, Forest Dwellers & Jharkhand that does not have updated land records along with restrictions on the transfer of land.
In order to enroll for PM-Kisan, a farmer need to approach the revenue officer / local patwari / Nodal Officer (PM-Kisan) appointed by the State Government. Farmers can also do self-registration via ‘Farmers Corner’ in the official website www.pmkisan.gov.in/. They can edit their names in the PM-Kisan database according to their Aadhaar card through the Farmers Corner section. In addition, they can check the status of their payment on the website. Farmers Corner section contains village-wise details of beneficiaries.
Common Service Centres (CSCs) have also been allowed to do the registration of farmers PM-Kisan yojana upon payment of fees. The above facilities on Farmers Corner are also available through Common Service Centres. The Union Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare also launched a 24x7 automated IVRS based helpline for status verification. For this, farmers need to dial 1800-11-5526 or 155261 to check the status of their application. Moreover, farmers can reach out to the PM-Kisan team through email [email protected].
As per latest data, government has released over Rs. 50850 crores till now under this scheme.
