As per latest government data, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-Kisan) launched by the Centre has benefitted around 9.67 crore farmers amid nationwide lockdown due to Covid-19.
The Modi-led-government informed that an amount of more than Rs. 19000 crore has also been released under PM-Kisan scheme in the last two months. This amount has been sent directly to the bank accounts of farmers.
The amount that has been released under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana is to help farmers in some or the other way in this crisis. Apart from this, the Centre has also provided agricultural seeds to the growers.
What is PM-KISAN Yojana?
Under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, an initiative by Modi government, all the farmers will be given Rs. 6,000 per year as minimum income support. PM-Kisan scheme was announced by Minister, Piyush Goyal on 1 February 2019, during 2019 Interim Union Budget. Sources said that the cost of PM-Kisan has been estimated to be Rs. 75,000 crore / annum. In this scheme, every farmer gets Rs. 6000 per year in three equal installments and the amount is transferred directly to their bank accounts.
The purpose to launch the scheme was to supplement the financial needs of small & marginal farmers in India so that they can get required inputs to ensure proper crop health & good yields.
