Many farmers registered under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana are currently racing against the November 30 deadline to complete the eKYC details to take benefit of the scheme. It is important to mention that the Union government made it mandatory to update eKYC details by linking the Aadhaar number.
As per latest media reports, several farmers in Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur district who had received the 11th installment of Rs 2,000 were not given the last or 12th installment of PM Kisan. A farmer from Pallathur told media that as many as 40 people from his village, including him, did not receive the 12th installment.
He added that when contacted, the agriculture department officers asked them to complete eKYC details by linking their Aadhaar on PM Kisan portal. He said that when they went to the nearest common service centres (CSC), the employees there said the website is not working.
Farmers also discussed the issue during the RDO-level monthly grievance redressal meeting held in Kumbakonam on Thursday (24 November). They also protested outside the venue.
Later an official from the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department told media that many farmers who got the previous installments failed to receive the last one.
The official said this is because on verification these farmers were found ineligible under the scheme due to several reasons (like more than one person from the same family was taking benefit of the scheme etc.).
He added that farmers who were found paying income tax and those who come under other exclusionary criteria, including receiving a monthly pension of Rs 10,000 or above, have also been removed.
According to the data available, around 1,16,499 people from the district have registered for the PM Kisan scheme. Out of them, 46,539 were found ineligible because of various reasons hence they did not get the last installment.
Besides this, around 27,696 farmers who have registered for the scheme have not yet linked their Aadhaar numbers. The last date to do so is November 30. Those who fail to link the aadhaar will not get the 13th installment, the official told.
Under PM Kisan scheme that was introduced in 2018, the government provides financial support of Rs 6,000 per annum in three equal installments to eligible farmers. Till now 12th installments have been released and the last one was paid on October 17, 2022.
