Under PMFBY, farmers are compensated for crop loss at a low and uniform premium.

What is Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana?
Under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, protection is provided from the beginning of the sowing cycle to the post-harvest period. It also includes providing protection against the damages caused by natural calamities. PMFBY is the biggest scheme in terms of farmers’ participation in India.

What do farmers have to do to take advantage of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana? If a farmer has suffered crop loss due to the local calamity, then he will have to inform this within 72 hours.
When will you get benefit of PM Fasal Bima Yojana?
• If standing crop is damaged due to the landslide, hailstorm, cloudburst, natural fire, and inundation, then you can claim for crop insurance.
• If the crop is damaged after harvesting due to the cyclone, unseasonal rain, cyclonic rain and hailstorm then also insurance is available.
• In both these situations, the farmers will have to give the information within 72 hours.
What to do to get Crop Insurance?
This is a voluntary scheme. If you want to take the advantage of this scheme then you need to apply for it - online or offline.
It must be noted that the state government issues advertisements for both Rabi and Kharif seasons.

Besides, proof of the crop sown in the field will also be required. For this, you can get it written by Sarpanch, Patwari, Pradhan etc. After this, the insurance money will come directly to the bank account. Note that the canceled check of the account in which you want to receive the money also has to be deposited.
