Padma Shri, Batakrushna Sahoo, farmer from Odisha, who was conferred with Padma Shri in the year 2020 for his contribution in animal husbandry inaugurated the “Livestock Farmer Field School” of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Khordha in Bhubaneswar last week.
The Livestock Farmer Field School has been set up for the first time in Odisha at the farm of Sumati Tripathy, a Lead Farmer of Maa Santoshi Mahila Mandal of Danapada Village, Balipatna Block in Khordha (Odisha).
Shri Sahoo, in his inaugural address highly praised the KVK’s efforts for helping the farmers of the Khordha District in adopting the scientific livestock farming system. He said that the Field School inaugurated would go a long way in bridging the research-extension gap.
Director of ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture in Bhubaneswar, Dr. Saroj Kumar Swain asked the farm women and farmers to take-up livestock farming. Dr. Swain also highlighted the popularity of the FFS Piloted by the Institute in the different parts of the country.
During the occasion, farmers were given various implements for dairy farming. As many as 200 farmwomen and farmers took part in the programme.
