Horticulture crops are becoming very popular among farmers due to the high profitability at low cost.  Additionally, the government never stops urging farmers to grow these crops. Farmers are also receiving bumper subsidies for growing these crops in certain areas.

Subsidy up to Rs 46,000 for farmers

The Bihar government is providing a subsidy of up to 50%, or Rs 49,000, for the cultivation of onions at a cost of Rs 98,000 per hectare. To take advantage of the subsidy program, farmers can easily apply on the horticulture.bihar.gov.in website of the Bihar Agriculture Department, Directorate of Horticulture. In addition, you can get in touch with the district's horticulture department for further information.

Climate Conditions Required for Onion Cultivation

Any fertile soil can be used to grow onions. But sandy loam soil is said to be best for growing it.

Since onions are produced as tubers, moist land should not be used for their cultivation. For its crop 5 to 6 P.H. valuable land is required. Both cold and hot temperatures are suitable for its cultivation.

Sowing of Onions

Onion is transplanted through plants. Its plants are prepared in the nursery one to two months prior to sowing its tubers in the field. You may purchase onion plants from a certified nursery and plant them in the fields if you don't want to go through this process.

How much is the yield?

About 250 to 400 quintals of onion are obtained from a one-hectare field, if the farmer wants, he can get a yield of up to 800 quintals from both the yields and can earn good money.
