NTPC Vindhyachal to Establish Carbon Capture Plant to Reduce Pollution

Vindhyachal power plant in Madhya Pradesh, which is also the country's largest electricity-producing station, has won the IPMA International Project Excellence Silver Award for project management for the year 2016.

According to an official, NTPC's Vindhyanchal power plant in Madhya Pradesh has set a target of establishing a carbon capture plant by 2023 in order to reduce pollution. He claims that the amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the environment will be reduced and that methanol created as a by-product will be useful.

S C Naik, the head of the Vindhyachal project, told reporters that the plant is totally committed to the environment and that more than 25 lakh saplings have already been planted in the area to make it a greener belt.

He claims that the pilot project will be the first of its kind not just in India, but also in the globe and that it will be operational by 2023.

NTPC Vindhyachal is the country's largest power plant, having a total installed capacity of 4,783 MW generated by coal, solar, and hydro sources, according to Naik.

According to the firm, a unit of the 4760 megawatts project was commissioned ahead of time — it was synchronized on 6 August last year and reached full load the same day, only 26 months after construction began.

At an award event held in Warsaw, Poland, Rajesh Kumar Bhatnagar, Executive Director of the Vindhyachal project, and SK Roy, Executive Director, Operations, received the award from the IPMA organizers.

On the occasion, global industrial giant GE was awarded gold for its South Africa Escom project, and China State Construction was awarded bronze for its Mauritius Airport Expansion project.

The IPMA International Project Excellence Award honours projects from a variety of nations, industries, and organizations, encouraging project teams to grow and enhance their project management skills. It encourages professional project management to achieve high performance and highlights projects that demonstrate great project management.
