Haryana Government has approved the implementation of Mukhyamantri Bagwani Bima Yojana (MBBY) to compensate horticulture crop losses due to adverse weather & natural calamities.

This scheme has been designed as a horticulture Crop Insurance Scheme with an aim to encourage farmers to cultivate high-risk horticulture crops. A total of 21 vegetable, fruit & spice crops will be covered under the scheme to cover losses due to various natural calamities such as hailstorms, frost, rainfall, flood, fire, etc. This decision was taken in a meeting of the state cabinet held in Chandigarh, chaired by Chief Minister  M.L. Khattar.

The Department of Horticulture has examined various crop insurance schemes covering horticultural crops & felt the need that a new scheme is required to cover crop loss due to natural calamities & adverse weather conditions.

Under this Scheme, farmers need to pay Rs 750 for vegetable & spice crop and Rs 1000 for fruit crops against a cover of Rs 30000 and Rs 40000 respectively. The claim compensation will be based on survey & extent of loss in 4 categories of 25%, 75% & 100%. The scheme will be optional and will cover the entire state.

Farmers can opt for this scheme while registering their crops on Meri Fasal Mera Byora Portal. Season wise crop registration period will be fixed & notified from time to time.

A fund of Rs 10 crore will be allotted by the state government at state & district levels committees under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMBFY) will monitor, review and resolve the dispurtes at state level as well as District Level.

There is another scheme that is offered by the Central Government, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, which provides the farmers with financial support in case of crop losses due to unforeseen events and hence stabilizes their income and ensure the flow of credit in the Agriculture Sector.
