A farmer informed that the yield of this variety of mango has been good this time due to favorable weather conditions.
As per the information from locals, Noorjahan mango is of Afgan origin and is cultivated only in the Katthiwada region of Alirajpur district adjacent to the Gujarat border, which is near to 250 km from Indore.
A mango cultivator from Katthiwada, Shivraj Singh Jadhav said, the three Noorjahan mango trees in my orchard have produced 250 mangoes, and are priced between Rs. 500 to Rs. 1000 per piece. And bookings have already been done for these mangoes by the people from Madhya Pradesh & Gujarat.”
He also mentioned that this time the weight of a Noorjahan mango is going to be between 2 & 3.5 kg.
One more person from Katthiwada, Ishaq Mansoori, an expert in cultivating Noorjahan mangoes said, “this time the crop of this variety has been good but the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the business.”
Noorjahan variety mango trees start flowering in January-February and starts producing fruits in the month of June. Locals claimed that the Noorjahan mango can grow up to a foot long and its kernels weigh around 150 to 200 grams.
