Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Food Processing Minister launched a new food park in Mizoram that will be helpful to benefit nearly 25,000 farmers and create 5000 new jobs, read an official statement said.
“The new park will leverage an additional investment of about Rs 250 crore in about 30 food processing units in the park and would eventually lead to a turnover of about Rs 450-500 Crores annually,” said Badal in the statement.
Kaur further added that in the last six years government initiated 88 projects in north-east Indian of which 7 are in Mizoram with and investment of Rs 1000 crore by the ministry which will directly impact 3lakh farmers and will help in creating job opportunities to 50,000 youth from the region.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid special focus on the north-east region in the last 6 years. He also changed the work culture with micro attention to the needs and aspirations of the region, said Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region.
Singh further added that the new park would help in making the farmers’ income double in the area and remove the middle man. Nearly 40 percent of fruits go waste in the region due to the absence of processing units.
“The North-East region has the potential to become the Organic destination of the world due to its rich and diverse land. The location is famous for its agricultural and horticultural produce and Sikkim has already been declared as the country’s first organic state,” he said.
The scheme of Mega Food Park by the Modi government aims to provide a mechanism to link the agricultural products directly to markets by brining farmers, processors, and retailers in order to ensure maximizing value, reduce wastage and increase farmer increase by double.
