New Global Organization Formed to Support Plant-Based Food Industry

Plant-based foods can help to solve problems that many consumers, businesses, and governments are concerned about, and they can provide real benefits in terms of water use, land use, and carbon emissions. Despite its global diversity, the IPBFWG is united in its efforts to create a more healthy, sustainable, and humane food system.

With the formation of an International Plant-Based Foods Working Group (IPBFWG) to support the growing sector, the plant-based foods movement is gaining global momentum. Plant-based food associations from seven regions/countries, including India, have joined forces to form the working group, with the goal of assisting the sector's development as it grows in popularity around the world.

Plant-Based Foods Canada (PBFC), the Plant-Based Foods Association (PBFA) in the United States, the European Alliance for Plant-Based Foods (EAPF), the European Plant-Based Foods Association (ENSA), the Plant-Based Food Alliance UK, the China Plant-Based Foods Association, and the Plant-Based Foods Industry Association make up the current IPBFWG executive (India).

The members of the working group will align and coordinate on high-level strategies and initiatives with the goal of advancing the plant-based food sector around the world, according to a statement.

The current food system is widely acknowledged as a contributor to many of the most pressing issues confronting the world's population.

Sustainable Food System:

Plant-based foods can help to solve problems that many consumers, businesses, and governments are concerned about, and they can provide real benefits in terms of water use, land use, and carbon emissions. Despite its global diversity, the IPBFWG is united in its efforts to create a more healthy, sustainable, and humane food system.

The IPBFWG will be expanding its membership beyond its seven launch partners, with more organizations expected to join.

"The European Alliance for Plant-Based Food is pleased to join forces with other national plant-based food associations to create a global network to exchange knowledge and insights," said Siska Pottie, Secretary-General of EAPF.  “Also work to support the formation of national plant-based organizations in order to accelerate the global transition to sustainable plant-based food systems on various continents."

"The plant-based food sector is seeing exponential growth," said Sanjay Sethi, ED of the Plant-Based Foods Industry Association. "A lot of effort needs to be put in to provide a level playing field for this nascent but promising industry." We have started a coordinated development with the launch of IPBFWG, and spirits are high and magnificent, just like one big family."
