Srinagar June,29: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha attended the "Kisan Maha Sammelan" and honored innovative, technologically advanced farmers for their contributions to the agricultural and horticultural sectors at SKICC in Srinagar. The Lt. Governor recognized farmers who were inventive and technically skilled for their contributions to the agricultural and horticulture industries.
The Lt. Governor thanked the farming community for their significant efforts to secure food security for our state of UT and nation.
The Lt. Governor urged young people to choose agriculture as a career path and mentioned several novel government policies and actions implemented to boost farmer income.
According to the Lt. Governor, the government has switched over the last two years to an enhanced agricultural system based on scientific principles and market-oriented regulations in order to make agriculture and related industries a viable and sustainable economic activity.
"Despite the rising urbanization, agriculture still provides a living for around 70% of the people, and it is the solution to the disparities in development between urban and rural regions. This objective has been met in part,” the Lt Governor added.
The Lt. Governor said, "By overcoming all the difficulties of agricultural reform, our ranking in monthly farm revenue has increased and J&K UT is standing tall among top 5 states/UTs."
Agriculture in J&K has limitless potential, and coordinated initiatives are presenting doors of opportunity for small and marginal farmers. The Lt Governor claimed that high-density plantation investment in agro-based sectors had never before occurred at the speed witnessed in the recent two years.
He continued by saying that the Green Agriculture Revolution, together with the assistance of agricultural universities, institutions, and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, has transformed farming in a novel way by providing farmers with the advantages of contemporary technology.
The Lt Governor stated that the Kisan Maan Dhan Yojana, which was initiated by the Prime Minister, covered 82,188 farmers in J&K last year. This year, the goal is to register 50,000 more farmers under the programme. After turning 60, the scheme's participating farmers would begin receiving a monthly pension of 3,000 rupees in their accounts. I strongly advise every qualified recipient to utilise this programme, he continued.
Farmers, young people, and women entrepreneurs were cited by the Lt. Governor as the administration of J&K's top priorities, and they were promised all possible help.
The Lt. Governor presented recipients with sanction letters and National Saffron Mission cash support at the event. Additionally, he published the book "Zero Budget Natural Farming" and checked out the spectacular booths set up by government agencies, businesses, and other stakeholders.
Agri-preneurs and Champion Farmers discussed their experiences, including how the UT administration's support for them improved their life. Many female agricultural entrepreneurs inspired others to start farming and make a good living.
The Lt. Governor emphasized the need to include these inspirational journeys in the school curriculum in order to ensure that such success tales of progressive farmers and agri-preneurs reach the youth. It's a source of pride that more girls and women are becoming farmers and choosing agriculture as a vocation, he continued.
The Chief Secretary, Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, expressed his gratitude to the agricultural community and the Agriculture Department for J&K's outstanding achievement in the agriculture industry. He expressed the expectation that J&K will be the top UT in terms of agricultural revenue via consistent innovation and focused efforts.
