National Conference on Zaid Agriculture and Horticulture 2020 was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare at NASC Complex in Delhi on 17th January. In this conference, some prominent ministers of agriculture like Narender Singh Tomar, Parshottam Rupala, and Kailash Choudhary, marked their presence and discussed how the production of Zaid crops can be promoted among farmers and agricultural professionals.
In this conference, topics like district-wise planning for mapping of potential areas under Zaid/Summer Cropping, life-saving irrigation for Zaid crops through Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) Input Management for Increasing Production of Zaid crops, etc were discussed by these prominent people from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Other than this, the importance of horticulture, its challenges, opportunities, and the way forward in the horticulture was also discussed by the speakers.
Zaid crops, also known as summer crops, are very significant, and not only increase the cropping intensity but also enhance the land utilization, and provide additional income to the farmers. The government has realized the importance of Zaid crops and is taking various initiatives to encourage farmers to promote the production of Zaid crops.
