The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, popularly known as NABARD is all set to implement a new loan scheme for the women's self-help groups (SHG) to start production of value added food products such as pickles, jams, chips, etc. from the next Gandhi Jayanti day i.e. on 2nd October.
Chairman of NABARD, G R Chinthala announced this in Virudhunagar, Tamilnadu.
While speaking to media after reviewing the working of different NABARD schemes, Chinthala said that the discussions will be held with Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, Edapadi Palanisamy in a day or two about permitting self-help groups to begin production of fertilizers.
The NABARD chief further told that the COVID-19 pandemic has affected 68 percent of agriculture and allied activities and that National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development is giving top priority to help this sector.
On the other hand, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development has also given in-principle approval for Rs 1,568 crore worth of proposals received from various agri-credit societies in twenty two states under the recently introduced Rs 1 lakh crore Agri Infrastructure Fund. The information was given by Agriculture Minuster, Narendra Singh Tomar to the Parliament on Tuesday.
