Microsoft Corporation and the U.S.-based National FFA Organization announced on May 6, 2025, the nationwide expansion of the FarmBeats for Students program. This innovative initiative brings smart sensors, data science, and artificial intelligence (AI) directly into middle and high school classrooms, empowering the next generation of farmers with hands-on experience in precision agriculture.
Starting immediately, FFA chapters in 185 schools will receive FarmBeats for Students kits at no cost. These kits come equipped with ready-to-use environmental sensors and a comprehensive curriculum tailored for educators, requiring no prior technical experience.
Designed to suit all classroom types, the program introduces students to modern farming tools used by professionals, including AI systems that monitor soil health and detect nutrient deficiencies in real time.
With agriculture increasingly relying on automation, drones, and data analytics to improve crop yields and combat climate challenges, the initiative aims to ensure American students keep pace with the global shift toward smarter, more sustainable farming.
The FarmBeats kits also allow students to customize experiments based on their region’s unique challenges, whether it’s drought, frost, or pest control, making the learning experience both relevant and impactful.
Educators and families can also buy a kit for just $35 and access free online training through Microsoft Learn. A new course on the Microsoft Educator Learn Center offers comprehensive instruction on AI, data science, and precision agriculture, enabling teachers to earn professional development hours and badges.
Co-developed by Microsoft, FFA, and agricultural educators, FarmBeats for Students aligns with national education standards including the AI for K-12 initiative, agricultural career pathways, and Common Core math.
