The "mango man," Haji Kalimullah Khan (Horticulturist), gave the world a unique variety of mangoes including the "Aishwarya" and "Sachin," and now he has developed two delicious new hybrids of the "king of fruits" and named them after celebrities.
This time, Haji Kalimullah Khan named the two new varieties "Sushmita Aam" and "Amit Shah Aam."
The gorgeous and curvy "Sushmita Aam" is named after Bollywood star and former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen. Khan said that Sen, with her good looks, charitable efforts, and two adopted daughters, is beautiful from inside and outside, just like the new mango varieties he developed.
"Aishwarya Aam was originally named in honor of the Indian actress Aishwarya Rai. However, I talked about Sushmita Sen with someone much later. I want people to remember her for her beauty, but I also want them to remember her for being a kind person. That's why this mango variety was developed this time and I named it Sushmita after her,” he explained.
The "Amit Shah Aam" was given that name in honor of BJP leader and Home Minister Amit Shah. Although delicious, Khan said that this hybrid still requires improvement for it to match the powerful personality of its namesake in terms of size and flavour.
“I have put in a lot of effort, soon the mango will be available to all. What is there now Its taste should be so good that people immediately say that it is indeed ‘Amit Shah’,” he said.
A well-known mango grower, Haji Kalimullah Khan has been producing distinctive hybrids and named them after public personalities for decades now.
The 82-year-old has grown Over 300 unique varieties of mangoes, including the Mulayam Aam, Namo Aam, Sachin Aam, Kalam Aam, Amitabh Aam, Yogi Aam, etc.
Khan was awarded the Padma Shri award in 2008 in recognition of his contributions to the field of horticulture and the preservation and diversification of mango varieties.
