Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR) in Bengaluru is organizing a two day Mango & Jackfruit Diversity Fair -2019 on May 28th and 29th at the IIHR campus in Hesaraghatta.
The highlight of the fair is that it is set to feature nearly 500 varieties of mango and more than 70 varieties of jackfruit – one of the biggest collections in the country, according to scientists at the IIHR.
A similar fair will also be conducted at the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat in Bengaluru on June 1 and 2 by IIHR.
IIHR, one of the premier horticultural research institutes of the country, has been conserving a large number of accessions of mango and jackfruit in its gene bank.
According to IIHR experts, there are about 750 varieties of mango in its collection including 180 varieties of Appemidi – the pickling variety. Similarly, the institute has a collection of 110 varieties of jackfruit conserved from different parts of the country.
