After news of Indian automobile firm Mahindra & Mahindra's tractor appearing in an Oscar-winning film went viral, netizens had a long day on the field. Sandeep Chakravorty, the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs for Europe-West, gave the news. He acknowledged the existence of Indian brands on a worldwide stage by posting a still from the Korean film Minari featuring a Mahindra tractor on Twitter.
Chakravorty began the caption with the hashtag #UngoogleableQuiz, which he included with the photo. He went on to say that it makes him happy to see Indian firms succeeding on the global stage. The Secretary of Europe-West confirmed that the image was a legitimate shot from an Oscar-winning international film by asking people to guess the title.
Numerous people on the microblogging site correctly identified the film as Minari, a Korean film. Steven Yeun and Youn Yuh-Jung starred in the film, which was directed by Lee Isaac Chung. Minari went on to receive six Oscar nominations, including one for best picture. Yuh-Jung Youn became the first Korean actor to receive an Academy Award for his role in the film.
Siddhartha Basu, a television producer-director, also tagged Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra in a post from the Oscar-winning film. He asked Mahindra group chairman if it was a happy coincidence or an intentional placement, pointing out that Mahindra is the world's largest selling tractor brand by volume.
In response to a question from television producer-director Basu, Mahindra stated that he learned of the tractor's inclusion in the film from a board member. He likes the phrase "happy happenstance," he added in the Tweet. He also stated that the company did exhibit tractors in the United States in the 1980s, but that they were early versions. In response to the criticism about "intentional placement," he stated that if Mahindra had positioned the product, it would have been more correct.
Netizens wasted little time in expressing their joy upon hearing the news. One user even posted a screenshot from the popular game PUB-G, which had a Mahindra tractor, and claimed that he had already located the tractor in PUB-G.
