A man in Maharashtra's Beed district has become a shining example of the resourcefulness that is fueling the country's start-ups by developing an 18-horsepower tractor to replace the requirement for a pair of bullocks to assist with farming.
Namdev Anerav (36) of Pimpalner, some 160 kilometres from here, told on National Start-up Day that the concept of a tractor with a width of just 1.5 feet and a length of 5 feet came to him in 2008 when the requirement for a pair of bullocks hampered farming on his family property.
"To overcome this restriction, I invented this small tractor, which operates on petrol and diesel. After a long period of trial and error, I utilized my welding skills to produce the first prototype in 2011-12. The finished product can plough, remove grass, and break clods of soil," he stated.
"I need to deliver 40 such tractors in the next four months, for which I have decided to hire seven people, and I plan to start a full-scale facility in Pimpalner to provide employment," he said. I started with Rs.1.10 lakh of my own and 28 investors put in Rs.8 lakh. The investment is worth Rs.1.10 crore now".
Due to electrical supply issues, the manufacturing facility had to be shifted from Pimpalner to Shendra in Aurangabad, he said, adding that his product got patented in July of last year.
Namdev's mentor and Marathwada Accelerator for Growth and Incubation Council (MAGIC) director Ashish Garde said MAGIC is India's first regional industrial association led incubator, which has 28 ideas under mentoring.

Versatility
Modern tractors, while appear in a range of models are designed and manufactured to be versatile in fulfilling a variety of tasks. Compact tractors can handle everything from gardening to minor farming jobs, and they can do even more by attaching various implements like front loaders or rear hoes.
Durability and power
Tractors are often built with strong engines that allow them to operate across rough terrain and pull extremely heavy loads, making them useful in difficult farming or landscaping work. Modern tractors also come with cast iron front axles for extra strength and durability.
Ease of transmission and operation
To make operating easier, modern tractors have power shift transmission and hydrostatic transmission. While these tractors include power steering to make turning simpler, modern versions have proprietary shift controls and an instantly responsive powertrain to assist decrease operator fatigue.
