About Rs 130 crore was recouped from ineligible recipients of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan), a central government support scheme for farmers; in the Tamil Nadu state.

The sum recovered is comparable to almost 70% of the assessed overall sum that has been given to the ineligible people, said an authority from the Agriculture Department, adding that the leftover sum will be recovered in a "staged way".

A couple of months prior, the specialists had discovered that lakhs of ineligible people, primarily in the northern areas of the state, had been selected as recipients of the plan, and crores of rupees credited to their accounts.

Despite the fact that the officials grant the enlistment of forthcoming beneficiaries according to the Center's SoP, they find a way to check their details, at two levels. In the localities of the concerned districts, authorities of the Revenue and Agriculture divisions do field checks. Reports of District Collectors are handled by an elite cell i.e. the PM Kisan cell, which is headed by a deputy director of the office in Chennai, investigates land records and ration cards of the candidates for whom the online application is received. Till now, almost 10,000 farmers have applied for consideration to the scheme.

Concerning the status of crop inclusion, food grains such as paddy, millets and pulses are being raised across 23.7 lakh hectares, which is almost 50,000 hectares more than the earlier year's inclusion. Of the overall area, paddy covers around 13 lakh hectares; millets covers 7.6 lakh ha and pulses covers 3 lakh ha. While utilizing the cultivation seasons; samba and thaladi. The Cauvery delta is raising paddy cultivation in more than 5 lakh ha. It is believed that this figure will further go up in the coming weeks, the authority said.

Taking into account that adequate amount of water is accessible in the Mettur dam, which has a capacity of around 60 thousand million cubic feet, farmers located in the delta regions won't confront any issues, supporting their harvests. However, those individuals who have cultivated millets and pulses up in the southern regions and zones, for example, Ariyalur and Perambalur are excitedly anticipating rainfall, the authority added.
