Khadi & Village Industries Commission has decided to set up 500 natural cow dung paint manufacturing units. These units are expected to provide employment to about 6000 people in villages directly as well as increase the incomes of the farmers and livestock rearers.

This step is also taken in view of achieving the goal of doubling farmer’s income. How Livestock Farmers will be benefitted from this Initiative?
The livestock farmers of India have not been making any special use of the cow dung until now. They use it either as compost or it goes waste whereas, after the formation of natural paint making unit, cow dung will be sold directly to the plants or they will be able to use it by planting their own plants.
The KVIC has set the price of cow dung for making natural paint at Rs 5 per Kg. A healthy cow gives about 25 kg of dung in a day, so a person can earn up to Rs 100-125 per day from a single cow.
