Agriculture Minister of Maharashtra, Dada Phuse will launch a week-long programme that aims to update the farmers about the latest technology and innovations in the Agriculture sector. The main aim of it is to help farmers in increasing their food production.
As per an official statement from the Maharashtra government, the minister will visit agricultural farms in Sapte and Kone village of the Trimbakeshwar area in Nashik District. Here he will launch the ‘Krishi Sanjeevani Saptah’ to commemorate the birth anniversary of late chief minister Vasantrao Naik, The programme will be launched on July 1 as it is celebrated as Farmers’ Day in Maharashtra.
The Minister has also instructed the agricultural scientist, Agricultural department officers and other stakeholders to reach out to farmers with the latest information by the various agriculture research institute and universities and help them in adopting these practices in their cropping.
The week-long programme will also judge the work of the farmers and will give awards to them based on their performances.
The agriculture week is an important programme as during the COVID crisis Agriculture has remained one of the few bright spots with a growth rate of over 5%. The government has also announced a host of measures to improve the efficiency of agriculture not only in the field but to the complete supply chain as well.
One of the problems has been that despite the vast availability of land the yield production is quite low. The NITI Aayog in its report “Doubling Farmers Income” had argued that India had failed to adopt practices like crop intensity, diversification through high-value crops. According to the statistics, 60% of the total cultivable land lies unused for almost half of the sowing season.
Initiatives like ‘Krishi Sanjeevani Saptah’ have been promoted by the government but now maybe the perfect time to bring aggressive reforms to the sector.
