The ICAR-Indian Institute of Natural Resins and Gums in Ranchi together with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Khunti conducted two-day “Kisan Mela-cum-Agricultural Technology Exhibition - 2021” from 11-12 February.
Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren inaugurated the event. In his inaugural address, Soren stressed on the government’s commitment in bringing about the profound change in agriculture and forest sector to improve the rural purchasing power.
The Guest of Honor, Badal Patralekh, Minister of Agriculture, Jharkhand underlined the importance of lac cultivation being the source of revenue for the farmers. He asked people to spread the knowledge of scientific lac cultivation to all lac growing regions.
Rajesh Kachhap, MLA, Jharkhand talked about all the recent farmer welfare schemes of the central and state governments.
Dr. K.K. Sharma, Director of ICAR-IINRG briefed on the importance of lac in livelihood security of tribal farmers of India. Keeping in view the lac production potential of lac cultivating states, Sharma urged the state government to take up the issue of forming National Lac Development Board (NLDB).
A Memorandum of Understanding was also signed between ICAR-IINRG and IFIG. In addition, two Extension Folders were also released during the event.
Over 1,500 farmers that included women farmers, entrepreneurs, lac growers and rural youths attended the event.
