Rampal, a Kheri farmer, topped the list of awardees in the Uttar Pradesh cane development department's state level competition (farmers' category) 2021-22.
Rampal has been chosen as the winner of the first award in cane productivity, while farmers from Bulandshahr, Bijnore, and Pilibhit were chosen as the second and third winners, respectively.
To promote the sugar industry and cane development operations, as well as to encourage cane farmers, cane societies, sugar units, and women self-help groups (SHG), contests are organized each year in four categories: farmers, cane societies, sugar mills, and SHG. Rampal has shown his mettle in cane productivity by generating 1963 quintals of cane crop per hectare, earning him first place in this category.
Rampal, an arts graduate and a forward-thinking farmer from Lakhanpurwa village in Ramiabehar block, previously won first place in cane output at the district level in 2019. Rampal and his elder brother Dharmpal, who come from a line of progressive farmers, have pioneered various advances in cane cultivation. Dharmpal also won third place at the state level in banana farming this year.
Brijesh Kumar Patel, the district cane officer, complimented Rampal for his success in cane cultivation, saying, "He will be honored with a cash prize of 51,000 and felicitation during a ceremony in Lucknow shortly."
"Aside from Rampal, the Dashmesh women's self-help group, Amritapur, and the Abhipreran SHG, Khambharkhera have won a first and second award in generating cane seeds under women SHG category," Parel added.
"Pallia Cane Development Society has been selected for the third prize in the cane societies category," Patel stated. "The state-level accreditation of Kheri farmers, SHGs, and societies will encourage cane cultivation in the district, inspiring others to come up with innovations," he added.
