To bolster the plagued plantation sector in the state of Kerala, the government has declared a large number of measures in its plantation policy for improving the economical, work generation and ecological sustainability of plantation territories in the State.
Declaring the approach, the State Labor Minister TP Ramakrishnan said the public authority plans to reinforce the area for safeguarding the laborers.
The plantation industry on estimation of products stands at rupees 13,000 crore, utilizes 3.5 lakh individuals and almost 30% of the cultivated space in the State are involved by plantation produce. The estimation of products in 2013-14 was rupees 21,000 crore, which has come down to rupees 13,000 crore over the most recent five years because of low costs and significant expense of creation, sources added.

Chairman of Association of Planters of Kerala, SB Prabhakar said the arrangement, whenever actualized in the correct manner, will change work generation and food security of the State. As per Santosh Kumar, Executive Director, Harrisons Malayalam Ltd, the new plantation policy will assist the overall industry in expanding the return from the unit area of land by varied harvest creation and inter and multi cropping.
Furthermore, the settlement of lease problems and extension of leases will offer solidness to the sector where land is a factor of creation.
