As the market demand for basmati is expected to remain high in the domestic and international markets, farmers are likely to bring more area under the crop this year. Rice traders are advising farmers to grow more basmati as they expect the price to stay strong.
We all know that basmati rice brings higher returns and it requires less water for cultivation. As basmati is a short-duration crop, it can be sown late too. After knowing these factors farmers in Punjab and Haryana grow this premium variety. Both States account for over 70% of India’s basmati output.

Punjab Rice Millers and Exporters Association has appealed to farmers that grow and plant more Basmati rice, they appealed :-

Huge overseas and domestic demand is being received for Basmati Varieties 1121 & 1718.

They have requested farmers to avoid or restrict use of pesticides and spray only if required.

For safe and quality produce of Basmati varieties 1121 & 1718 follow the guidelines issued by GOI and prohibit the use of certain pesticides which were notified for paddy crop.

Do not use non recommended pesticides.

Farmers who will follow above standard norms will get better price.
