Rabi crop sowing generally takes place in the last week of October and continue till mid November. Rabi crop requires low temperature at the time of sowing and dry and hot environment at the time of ripening. Take for example wheat, mustard, barley, sesame, pulses, oilseeds etc. All these crops grow in less water. If these crops are indigenous, then the ability to tolerate drought and adverse weather condition is more than other crops. Besides this, all these crops are also helpful for the supply of food grains to the farmer.
Now talking about rabi harvesting, which generally takes place from the last week of February till last week of April. After harvesting, these crops are dried properly. It must be noted that except wheat crop, no other crop is harvested with a thresher. For example, if you use thresher for harvesting gram then it will rupture. Similarly, flaxseed will go off with the straw which will ultimately harm the farmer.
As we all know that currently, India is under complete lockdown due to constant rising cases of COVID-19 in the country. And this is the time when Rabi crop harvesting takes place. Due to lockdown, farmers are not able to take their crops to the mandis to sell at the minimum support price. At this time the best solution is to store all the crops either with themselves or in a government storehouse.
If you are a farmer and you want to store your produce, then the Rajasthan government is giving subsidy for this. Under this subsidy scheme, farmers of every class and category of all the districts of the state are being benefited including small and marginal farmers of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. There is a provision for 50 percent subsidy for general category farmers and 60 percent for scheduled caste and scheduled tribe farmers for storage of crops.
