As many as 15 lakh farmers will receive Rs. 2,990 crore against crop insurance most probably by next week. According to AIR report, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan recently announced that the money will be deposited directly in to the bank accounts of farmers in the state.
The report further said that according to the official information, the premium amount of around Rs. 2,200 crore payable by the government for Kharif as well as Rabi crops was not paid by the previous Congress Government.
And because of this, farmers were not getting the benefit of the crop insurance. The Chief Minister told that as soon as his government was formed, this money was released to the insurance companies in the month of March and now the annadatta’s will be able get crop insurance.
Meanwhile, Ajit Kesri, Principal Secretary Agriculture said that the crops were insured by around 35 lakh farmers in Madhya Pradesh under the Kharif Season-2018, of which 8 lakh 40 thousand growers will receive insurance amount of one thousand 930 crore rupees.
In the same way, crops were insured by 25 lakh cultivators in MP during the Rabi Season 2018-19. Out of the total, 6 lakh 60 thousand farmers would get insurance amount of one thousand 60 crore rupees.
