Under the YSR free crop insurance scheme, the government has been giving crop insurance to farmers at no expense to them, said Tirupati MP Dr M Gurumoorthy.
He took part in a programme to credit benefits to farmers who lost crops due to different calamities during the kharif season of 2021. On Tuesday, the programme was held at KVB Puram in the Satyavedu constituency of Tirupati district.
Speaking on the occasion, the MP stated that the government has been giving crop insurance to farmers for the third year in a row, which will enable them to resume farming activities. Because agriculture employs 80% of the population in the state, the Chief Minister wished to help them when their crops were destroyed by natural disasters.
As a result, the state government has started paying the farmers' insurance premiums. Through Rythu Bharosa Kendras, every crop is enrolled in e-crop and insurance coverage is provided.
A total of Rs 3.58 crore has been put into the accounts of 5,297 farmers in Tirupati district as part of the state-wide programme. The 'Gadapa Gadapaku Mana Prabhutvam' programme, according to Satyavedu MLA Koneti Adimulam, has received positive feedback from all corners. According to him, the Chief Minister has been balancing development and welfare equally.
According to Collector K Venkata Ramana Reddy, 20,646 farmers received Rs 15.89 crore in 2019 kharif, while 7,294 farmers received Rs 24.74 crore in 2020 under the free crop insurance scheme.
S Dorasani, Srikalahasti RDO Haritha, Panchayat Raj DE Damodaraiah, MPDO Prasad Reddy, MPP Munilakshmi Nandakumar, ZPTC member Munisubbaiah, and others were among those who took part in the programme.

The Scheme's principal goal is to provide crop insurance coverage to all of the state's farmers. All natural calamities, such as heavy rains, droughts, and cyclones, will be covered under this scheme. The government will compensate farmers for crops lost as a result of these natural disasters.
