Foodgrain Production Estimated to be Record 315.72 million tonnes in 2020-21

The production in the year 2021-22 is higher by 25 million tonnes than the previous 5 years’ (2016-17 to 2020-21) average production of foodgrains.

The production of Foodgrains in India is estimated at 315.72 million tonnes which is higher by 4.98 million tonnes than the production of foodgrain during 2020-21.

The production in the year 2021-22 is higher by 25 million tonnes than the previous 5 years’ (2016-17 to 2020-21) average production of foodgrains.

Record production is estimated for rice, pulses, maize, gram, rapeseed and mustard, oilseeds, and sugarcane.

Narendra Singh Tomar, Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Minister said that this record production of so many crops is the result of the farmer-friendly policies of the Government under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi as well as the tireless efforts of the farmers and the diligence of the scientists.

According to a statement from the ministry, rice production is expected to be 130.29 million tonnes. Wheat production could increase to 106.84 million tonnes, 2.96 million tonnes higher than the past five years' average of 103.88 million tonnes.

Ministry said that the production for Nutri or coarse cereals could be 50.90 million tonnes.

Total production of pulses in 2021-22 is estimated to be a record 27.69 million tonnes, which is 3.87 million tonnes from the average production over the previous five years of 23.82 million tonnes.

According to the ministry, the country is estimated at a record 37.70 million tonnes of the total oilseeds production in 2021–22.

Sugarcane production is estimated at a record 431.81 million tonnes, according to the fourth advance estimate.

There will be around 31.20 million bales of cotton produced (each of 170 kg) and around 10.32 million bales of jute and mesta (each of 180 kg).

The assessment of the production of different crops is based on the data received from the States and confirmed with information available from other sources.
