Fish farming, according to Telangana Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy can yield significant results. Instead of planting traditional crops, he urged farmers to think beyond the box.
He claimed that the Telangana administration, led by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, has been encouraging fish farming and advised farmers to do so because the state has plenty of water.
On Thursday, Reddy and local MLA Chirumarthi Lingaya visited a fish farm in Ammanabolu village of Narketpalli mandal in the district, which is being cultivated on a 10-acre farm by a farmer named Baddam Ram Reddy.
Farmers should transfer to contemporary agriculture methods from traditional ones, according to the Minister, who examined the ten-acre fish pond. Later, he hosted an interactive meeting on traditional crops with local farmers.
In comparison to paddy cultivation, he claims that fish farming will assist create significant earnings. He stated that there was enough water to build fish ponds because irrigation facilities had increased since the creation of Telangana State.
Minister Jagadish Reddy spoke at the event and praised farmer Ram Reddy for choosing fish farming. The Minister emphasized the necessity for fundamental changes in the agriculture sector while explaining the difficulties faced by Ram Reddy in fish farming to the farmers.
He stated that farmer Ram Reddy has demonstrated that fish farming yields large earnings, and that other farmers should be inspired by farmers like Ram Reddy to focus on alternative crops.
Fish farming, as well as groundnut, red gram, green gram, and millets production, must be given special attention so that higher returns can be achieved with less expenditure.
“The State government has been pushing fish farming by providing financial assistance through the Fisheries department and the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA),” he said, urging farmers to grow pulses, which will provide higher profits with less investment. Chirumarthi Lingaiah, a member of the Nakrekal Legislative Assembly, was also present.
Narketpalli MPP Soodireddy Narender Reddy, former MPP Regatti Mallikarjun Reddy, and local TRS leaders accompanied the Minister.
