On the anniversary of the farmer's protest on November 26, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha will vote on a motion by the Haryana Farmers Union to gherao the parliament indefinitely on Tuesday.
Sources said that the farmers union of Haryana were actually considering laying siege on the parliament and waiting there till the govt rolled back the farm laws. Another separate group of farmers on November 8 from Punjab passed a resolution to march to the parliament on the anniversary of the Farmers protest.
This all began after an announcement by Rakesh Tikait of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) which stated that the farmers’ protest would be intensified in the coming days if the farm bills were not repealed by November 26.
The govt has actually had eleven discussions with the farmers after which they had stated that the new farmer laws were actually pro-farmer. November 25 will mark not only the anniversary of the farmer’s protest but also the anniversary of the Dilli Chalo movement which marked the beginning of the farmer’s protest.
This Farmers Agitation began due to farmers wanting to get the following 3 bills that were introduced by the Modi Government:
-
Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020
-
Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance, Farm Services Act, 2020
-
Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020
Earlier this year on January 26, the protest that was intended to highlight farmer union’s demands to repeal the above mentioned three agriculture laws, devolved into chaos on the streets of the national capital as thousands of protesters broke through barriers, fought with police, overturned vehicles, and hoisted a religious flag from the iconic Red Fort's ramparts.
Actually, the Anniversary of the Farmers protest is a very important date that the farmer’s Union can use to sit down with the govt and continue the discussions which have been put on hold since January 22 this year.
