Small and marginal farmers who have not burnt paddy straw will be given Rs 2,500 per acre as compensation. This was decided by the Punjab government on the directives of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.
Revealing the information in detail, Kahan Singh Pannu, Secretary Agriculture said that the farmers doing non-basmati paddy cultivation and owning land up to 5 acre, will get Rs. 2500 /acre compensation for not burning the paddy remains or residues. He also pointed out that firstly, the recipient of this compensation must be a farmer who owns up to five acres of land in his name, his wife & children under 18 years of age. In addition to this, the aforesaid grower cultivates non-basmati paddy in above mentioned region and also should not have burnt the paddy residue in any part of his field.
Further giving details of the process for seeking compensation, the Agri Secretary said that those farmers who fulfill the above-mentioned conditions, will have to submit a self-declaration performa to their concerned Panchayat by 30th November 2019. He told that the performa can be obtained from the village Panchayats. The compensation amount will be transferred directly to the bank account of the eligible farmers.
In the meantime, Pannu also requested the farmers not to burn paddy remains as it was the blatant breach of the orders of the Supreme Court (SC) and also warned of strict action against those who try to violate the ban on stubble burning.
