Good News for Farmers! The Shinde Fadnavis government plans to launch a new scheme in the state to provide Rs 6,000 annually to eligible farmers.
The Chief Minister's Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, will be implemented in a way similar to that of Central Government's Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. The government will shortly decide the criteria of eligible farmers to be entitled to take benefits under the proposed scheme.
The state government sources told to media that the scheme's details were being worked out it will be made by making the budgetary provision. The decision is made by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who presided over the meeting with the agriculture department officials.
The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Yojana was launched by the government in 2018 to solve the financial problems of farmers. The central government deposits Rs 6,000 into the farmers' accounts each year as part of the scheme. The farmers receive this money in three instalments of Rs 2,000 each.
The CM's action is obviously motivated by the approaching elections for Maharashtra's rural and urban local bodies. Additionally, this aims to send a clear message to farmers that the state government is totally behind them and is committed to going above and beyond to resolve their difficulties. Farmers are currently struggling to deal with damages caused by nature furies.
The average operational holding size as of the 2015–16 agricultural census was 1.34 hectares, compared to 4.28 ha during the 1970–71 agricultural census, according to the state agriculture department. According to the Agriculture Census 2015–16, the total area of small and marginal operational holdings (up to 2.0 ha) made up 45% of all operational holdings' total area, while their number made up 79.5 percent of all operational holdings' total number.
During the Kharif season of 2021-22, sowing was completed in 155.15 lakh ha area. According to CM Kisan, production of cereals, pulses, oilseeds, cotton, and sugarcane is predicted to decline by 11%, 27%, 13%, 30%, and 0.4%, respectively, from the prior year. 52.47 lakh acres have been sown by the end of January in the rabi season 2021–2022. While production of grains and oilseeds is predicted to decline by 21% and 7%, respectively, over the previous year, production of pulses is predicted to rise by 14%. Horticulture crops are grown on 21.09 lakh hectares of land, and in the years 2020–21, 291.43 lakh MT are expected to be produced.
