China’s budding interest in the Indian territory is much apparent with the increasing investment by Beijing in its neighboring land. After creating a foray in the sector of electronics, banking, agro chemicals etc the Chinese investors are entering in the segment of food processing in India. Chinese pickle making giant, from Meishan is all set to land its feet in Delhi.
ICEC, India China Economic and Cultural Cooperation organized a seminar on India-China Food Processing Sector, for a visiting Chinese delegation from CCPIT Meishan Council. The main objective of their visit was to understand the business/investment opportunities in the Indian food processing sector. The delegation comprised of senior officials from CCPIT and business enterprises.
Extending the greeting to the present assembly, Mohd. Saqib, Secretary General, India China Economic and Cultural Council took the stage with lighthearted and crisp expression, terming Indians as " PICKLE REPUBLIC OF INDIA" signifying the importance of pickle in the food habits of Indians.
Madam Feng Yan, First Secretary, Economic & commercial Counsellor’s Office, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in India addressed the assembly stating few facts and eulogizing the province. She said, “ Meishan is well known for the longevity of their life and it is a beautiful part of China. There are many similarities between the two countries, Both China and India shares the high number of population and experience in Farming. There are few segments where China lies little ahead of India but the time is not far when both will be at par. Meishan’s entry in the food processing division raises high hopes for the investments that China will be pouring in India.”
ICEC and CCPIT, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade signed an MOU in New Delhi at the event on 30th August 2018 to boost cooperation between the two nations in the food processing division. Mou Jianlin, Chairman CCPIT and Mohd. Saqib , Secretary General, ICEC signed the MOU at the event.
As per 2017 sales data, Meishan industries procured 15,760 million Renminbi. This firm accounts for one third of the total China’s pickle industry. The exports looms large with its business running in countries like Europe, Japan, Korea and other 130 countries in the world. Mr. Lin Quan, Vice Director of the People Government of Meishan Dongpo District Committee in his address said, “ India and China has pretty identical geographical, commercial and developmental progress chart. Meishan is an important name in the food processing industry in China.”

Mr. Fan Chunwen, Party Secretary of the Management Committee of Meishan“ Chinese Pao Cai City” from the stage said, “ We produce about 130 kind of pickle which are famous all over the world. We are looking for new cooperation and trade association in India."
China entering the Indian food processing sector, firms the neighbor's interest in Delhi, defying any harm to business amidst the growing instability in the region. Organizations like ICEC and CCPIT are working earnestly to augment the cooperation amongst the business units which are willing to expand their bases in the respective countries.
