The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) plans to start a massive campaign across the country to convey Prime Minister Narendra Modi's message encouraging farmers to practise organic farming. On April 28, BJP Kisan Morcha head Rajkumar Chahar will begin the Jan Abhiyan Yatra (people's movement) from Bihar.
He will lead a 5-kilometre yatra with roughly 2000 farmers from the Bakhtiarpur region of Bihar's Patna district.
The Yatra will travel through villages on the banks of the Ganga in Bihar, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, and Jharkhand in the first phase of this public awareness campaign, according to Chahar.
The BJP Kisan Morcha will also hold Kisan Sammelans and Kisan Sabhas to educate farmers on the benefits of organic farming and the central government's programmes that promote it.
"There will be a massive movement." We will contact farmers and advise them about the central government's organic agricultural programmes. We will inform them about the government's assistance to farmers and how, in the long run, they will gain greatly from it, "Chahar told ANI.
Chahar, the Lok Sabha MP from Fatehpur Sikri in Uttar Pradesh, went on to say that the Central Government had given farmers Rs 1,632 crores since 2015 to encourage them to switch to organic farming.
From fiscal year 2015-16 to fiscal year 2019-2020, the federal government has provided money totaling Rs. 1,632 crores to encourage farmers to practise organic farming. "The government is also providing roughly Rs 50,000 per acre via various initiatives for organic farming," he added.
The BJP representative went on to say that Prime Minister Modi has repeatedly spoken about the hazards of pesticides and imported fertilisers, asking small farmers to switch to organic or natural farming.
He continued, "He has also stressed the dangers of using pesticides and chemical insecticides, which raise input costs and have an impact on human health."
Earlier, during a webinar on the positive impact of the Union Budget 2022 on agriculture, PM Modi stated, "We are pushing organic farming, and as a result, the market for organic products has reached Rs 11,000 crore." Organic exports have increased from Rs 2,000 crore to more than Rs 7,000 crore in six years. "
