BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya said on Friday the will ensure that after voting for power in West Bengal, every state farmer receives Rs. 18,000 in arrears under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.
The statement of Vijayvargiya, in charge of the BJP's West Bengal, came days after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee suggested that she was willing to introduce the central system in the state, in which farmers earn Rs 6,000 per year in three equal instalments.
The move of Trinamool Congress chief, made months before the assembly polls, is being seen as an attempt to blunt the BJP's allegation that her party is preventing farmers of West Bengal from getting benefits of the scheme.
'After the Mamata Banerjee government goes and the BJP government comes to power, Bengal farmers will get their due,' Vijayvargiya said, addressing a party rally at Nandigram in the Purba Medinipur district.
Each of them will be paid Rs 18,000 in arrears, the sum already transferred to farmers' bank accounts in the rest of the country, he added.
The mafia controls the coal and sand mining of the state and engages in smuggling cattle, he argued, adding that the BJP will drive out of the state those engaged in such rackets.
BJP President Dilip Ghosh of West Bengal, who also addressed the rally, describing the TMC as a virus, said that his own party is the solution to the ruling party's leaving the state after May.
The assembly election in the state is expected in April-May.
Alleging that in West Bengal, the BJP already has 1.5 lakh supporters; Ghosh said that nearly 29,000 cases were brought against BJP workers in the district to threaten them.
