In the last 15 years, Bihar has seen a significant increase in agricultural exports. In 2006, the state's total agriculture export was only Rs 3 crore. In 2020, it climbed to Rs 2,617 crore.
N Sarvana Kumar, the state's agriculture secretary, disclosed this on Friday during a presentation to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on the state's agricultural marketing efforts. The event took place in the CM residence's 'Sankalp' hall.
CM Nitish Kumar directed the agricultural department officials to boost agricultural export in the state at a quicker rate after reviewing the presentation. He predicted that as the volume of agricultural exports increased, state farmers' income would rise.
Kumar also requested that the state agri market be organized and developed in a more structured manner. “At all marketing yards, take all required steps to establish infrastructures,” he urged.
The CM went on to say that Bihar's contract farming ecology was rapidly evolving. “I traveled to Motihari and watched a contract farming technique for potatoes up close. It was a great experience. During the review, Nitish said, "I was very impressed by the information supplied by the farmers related to contract farming."
Since 2006, Nitish's government has taken a number of steps in the domain of agriculture education. “In the state, a new agriculture university, a new veterinary university, and other agricultural colleges have opened, increasing students' interest in agriculture education,” Nitish explained.
The Chief Minister also stated that work on the welfare of farmers in Bihar is ongoing. “We've created three agriculture road maps so far. “Before preparing the agriculture road map, advice and proposals from a big number of farmers are gathered,” he stated.
Nitish went on to say that the state's agriculture yield and productivity have both grown. Crops such as makhana, rice, wheat, and maize have seen a rise in production. “Our main goal is to boost farmer income,” he stated.
Previously, the agriculture secretary provided detailed insight into future agriculture marketing schemes, Bihar agri export policy, development of infrastructure in marketing yards, rules for allotment of properties in agri marketing yards, agri market information system, eNAM implementation in the state, rules for contract farming, and strengthening of Bihar agri export policy in his presentation.
