Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Meets Agriculture Commission

Chief Minister Sarma further requested that the Commission make recommendations regarding the seeds for improving farming techniques' productivity, profitability, stability, and sustainability.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, met with the Assam Agriculture Commission yesterday and asked it to visit various agricultural clusters throughout the state, speak with progressive farmers, try to understand their problems, and suggest solutions in order to increase agricultural commodities' gross production.

Chief Minister Sarma requested that the Commission members hold meetings for at least six months to review the implementation of the Commission's recommendations and observations for the qualitative and quantitative development of the agriculture sector while the meeting was being held in the conference room of his office in Janata Bhawan.

Additionally, he requested that the Commission help the state farmers expand their capacity in organic and natural farming and increase the export potential of their produce.

Chief Minister Sarma further requested that the Commission make recommendations regarding the seeds for improving farming techniques' productivity, profitability, stability, and sustainability.

In order to enhance agricultural production, he also requested that the Commission replace the current seeds with good, new varieties of high-yielding seeds.

The Chief Minister further stated that the Commission should consider areas like policy modification required to guarantee the efficient implementation of the policies and execute convergence with line departments for the overall development of the agriculture sector.

Sarma also asked the Commission for guidance on how to help the sector deal with periodic floods, droughts, and other climate-related stressors in light of the climate and its implications on agriculture.

Atul Bora, the minister of agriculture, H.S. Gupta, the chairman of the Assam Agriculture Commission, its members, Asish Bhutani, the additional chief secretary for agriculture, Samir Kumar Sinha, the principal secretary to the chief minister, Jayant Narlikar, and other senior officers were present at the meeting.
