Due to increased shipments of activated carbon, India's coconut and product exports totaled Rs 3,237 crore in 2021-22. Shipments increased by more than 41% to Rs 2,295 crore in the 2020-21 fiscal year. With a shipment of 1,37,363 tonnes, activated carbon generated export revenue of Rs 2,064 crore.
According to official sources, the United States remained the top destination for activated carbon exports, a medium used for gold extraction and purification. Germany, Russia, Korea, the Netherlands, Belgium, Canada, and other countries also shipped the product.
According to industry sources, rising gold prices and the opening of new gold mines have resulted in a thriving global market for activated carbon. India's activated carbon is gaining popularity in comparison to other producing countries.
According to data released by the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics in Kolkata, coconut oil and fractions were the second-best in the country's export basket, earning Rs 430 crore on a shipment of 16,038 tonnes. Copra exports totaled Rs 139 crores during the period, with 11,325 tonnes shipped. Desiccated coconut powder exports totaled Rs 119 crore for a total of 7,457 tonnes.
During the period, total imports of coconut and products into the country totaled Rs 728 crore. Coconut oil cake and oil cake expeller varieties accounted for Rs 500 crore, with a total quantity of 2,18,481 tonnes. Copra imports totaled 8,589 tonnes worth Rs. 79 crore. Imports of coconut shell charcoal totaled 58,648 tonnes worth Rs. 27 crores.
