IBD also known as Gumboro disease, is a highly contagious viral infection that primarily affects young domestic chickens. The disease is caused by the Infectious Bursal Disease Virus (IBDV). Clinical signs include listlessness, watery diarrhea, ruffled feathers, and dehydration. The disease can lead to high morbidity rates and, in some cases, high mortality rates, especially with very virulent strains. Vaccination is a common method to induce active immunity in chicks as maternal antibodies wane. Both vectored and attenuated live virus vaccines are used.
