A cash crop, unlike anything you cultivate for yourself, such as your raised bed of cucumbers and carrots that you pick and enjoy all summer, is grown and harvested with one goal in mind: profit. Farmers make a living by growing cash crops; everything they and their family eat (or feed to their animals) is referred to be a subsistence crop. The price growers receive for their cash crops is determined by demand and transportation distance, among other factors. Corn, wheat, and coffee beans are examples of common cash crops.
