Sri Lankan government acts on deforestation
Sri Lankan government has decided to act on deforestation, in Sri Lanka and elsewhere. It has ordered a ban on import of palm oil and chopping up of existing palm plantations in Sri Lanka. Palm plantations are assumed to be the major cause of deforestation as forest areas are cleared to plant palm trees. Banning the use of palm oil in the country will go a long way towards curbing deforestation.
