  • IIT Guwahati Discovers New Enzyme-'RfGH5 4'; Produces Bioethanol from Forest Scraps

    With dwindling fossil fuel reserves and climate change wreaking havoc on the world, adopting clean strategies based on renewable energy is critical. Ethanol, also known as ethyl alcohol, can be used to fuel vehicles in addition to being used in spirits, drinks, and pharmaceutical products. RfGH5 4, an enzyme derived from the bacterium Ruminococcus flavefaciens, effectively breaks down cellulose and hemicellulose in woody biomatter and converts it to bioethanol. This bacterium can be found in the intestines of cows and other cud-eating animals.

  • Assam Agri Mininister Atul Bora Interacted with Local Farmers in Golaghat District's Bokakhat Area

    "The farmers have grown mustard on over 5,000 bighas of land here. In addition to mustard, local farmers have grown potatoes and pumpkins. Our department has provided full support to the farmers," said Atul Bora. Earlier on December 21, the Assam government announced in the state assembly that neighbouring states had encroached on over 82,000 hectares of the state's land. In response to a written query from Congress MLA Debabrata Saikia, Assam Border Protection and Development Minister Atul Bora stated that Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Mizoram have encroached on a total of 82,751 hectares of Assam's land.

     

  • ADB Ranks WAPCOS Among Top Consulting Firms in Water and Other Infrastructure Sectors

    The Asian Development Bank (ADB), in its Annual Procurement Report 2022, ranked WAPCOS as the top consulting services firm in the water and other infrastructure sectors, with the highest sanctioned financed amount. WAPCOS is a Government of India Enterprise under the Ministry of Jal Shakti. In a different report on its Members' Fact Sheet - 2022 that the ADB published, WAPCOS was listed as one of the Top 3 Indian Consultants engaged in Consulting Services Contracts under ADB Loan, Grant, and Technical Assistance Projects in the Energy, Transport, and Water, as well as Other Urban Infrastructure Sectors. The only Indian public sector company listed in the aforementioned categories is WAPCOS.
