  • Walmart Foundation to Invest Over USD 3.5 mn to Strengthen FPOs in MP & West Bengal

    With the intention of empowering smallholder farmers through the Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) framework, the Walmart Foundation recently announced three new grants in the states of West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh. This includes grants of USD 1.7 million to ACCESS Development Services for economic empowerment and income enhancement of farmers in Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal, USD 1.09 million to SRIJAN to improve the lives of small and marginal farmers and promote women as rural entrepreneurs, and USD 1.1 million to Action for Social Advancement (ASA) in Madhya Pradesh. 

     

  • Rain Disrupted Maharashtra Cane Supplies, Forcing Sugar Plants to Close: Shekhar Gaikwad

    Maharashtra, which accounts for more than a third of the country's sugar supply, might produce 12.8 million tonnes of sugar in the 2022/23 marketing year, which began on Oct. 1. Sugar mills in Maharashtra, India's top producing state, are poised to end cane crushing 45 to 60 days earlier than last year due to poor weather, a senior state government official told Reuters on Friday.

     

  • PM Kisan 13th Installment: Hurry Up! Just 1 Day Left to Complete e-KYC Verification

    The government released the last installment of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi popularly known as PM Kisan in October and now farmers are eagerly waiting for the 13th instalment. In order to avail payment, the government has asked all the beneficiaries to complete the e-KYC verification. The Agriculture Department of Bihar in tweet said that PM Kisan beneficiaries must complete their e-KYC verification by Saturday (January 28, 2023) if they want the 13th instalment without any delay.

     

  • Budget 2023-24: CropLife India Urges Govt. to Reduce High GST Rates on Agrochemicals

    In order to increase the emphasis on Innovation and Research & Development, which would help the farmer, CropLife India, an organization of 16 R&D-driven crop science companies, recommended the government: follow a uniform basic customs tariff of 10% for both technical raw materials and formulations; provide a 200% weighted deduction for R&D expenses involved by agrochemical industries, and lower the GST on agrochemicals from 18% to 12%.

     

  • Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya Launches India’s First Intra-Nasal Covid-19 Vaccine ‘iNCOVACC’

    The iNNCOVACC COVID-19 vaccine was unveiled by Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, in the presence of Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (IC) for Science and Technology. The first intranasal COVID-19 vaccine to be approved for both a heterologous booster dose and a primary 2-dose schedule is iNNCOVACC. It is created in collaboration between Bharat Biotech International Limited (BBIL) and Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance (BIRAC), a PSU that falls under the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology.
