Incessant Rains damages crops in 34,337 acres in Telangana
Standing crops that includes cotton and paddy have been damaged in 34,337 acres belonging to 17,798 farmers in the recent rains in Telangana’s Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, as per preliminary estimates. It has been estimated that the crop loss was to the tune of Rs 16.25 crore. Heavy rainfall also destroyed 1,124 houses partially & 104 houses completely. Mohammed Abdul Azeem, District Collector on 26th August 2020 inspected the damaged road between Jamnagar & Minajipeta villages and also the damage to crops in Krishnapur village in Mahamutharam mandal in the district.

Orange Alert Issued for Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand
As per weather department, several parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand will receive heavy rainfall in the next two days starting 27th August (Thursday). An orange alert has also been issued in both these states for the next 48 hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the monsoon trough is presently active, and is very likely to stay active during the next 2 days. Furthermore, strong southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea will continue converging over northwest part of India for the next two days.

COVID-19 Update: Biweekly Lockdown in West Bengal Extended in till mid-September
Government of West Bengal has extended the bi-weekly lockdown in the state till the middle of next month i.e. September. Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee on 26th August 2020 announced the new dates of the partial lockdown for September.
WB government has relaxed the restriction on domestic flights from high prevalence areas to Kolkata from next month. Banerjee said, "We received several requests to start flight operations from 6 COVID-19 hotspot states. So, from 1st September, flight services from these 6 states can resume thrice a week".

Heavy Rainfall & Pests could slash Soyabean crop by 10 to 12 percent in Madhya Pradesh: SOPA
The Soyabean Processors Association of India (SOPA) said that incidence of pest as well as diseases after heavy rainfall, especially on early-sown crop might increase the losses of soyabean crop in Madhya Pradesh. A statement from SOPA said, "In MP, the overall loss of production could be 10 to 12 percent. However, the weather in coming weeks would have a great bearing on final yields”.
