Centre orders ‘immediate’ procurement of paddy/rice in Haryana, Punjab amid Protests
In the wake of farmers’ protest against three contentious farm bills, the Centre on Saturday ordered commencement of procurement operations for kharif paddy/rice “immediately” in Punjab and Haryana.
The Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2020-21 for paddy/rice was scheduled to commence from the next week in all procuring states, but the Centre has allowed procurement operations to begin from Saturday in both these states. -
Heavy rainfall likely over these parts of India during next 24 hours: IMD
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is likely to be heavy rainfall over eastern part of Bihar, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura and Mizoram during the next 24 hours.

Moreover, PM Modi said he was confident that the massive electoral victory of the ruling party in Sri Lanka backed by the Rajapaksa government's policies will facilitate deeper cooperation between the two countries.

S P Balasubrahmanyam's Funeral Held With A 72-Gun Salute
Legendary playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam passed away on September 25 at the age of 74. His mortal remains will be taken to his farmhouse on the outskirts of Chennai tonight, and he will be laid to rest there post 10:30am tomorrow. The official statement from MGM Healthcare in Chennai said that despite maximal life support measures, the singer died of a cardio-respiratory arrest.
