  • PAU Develops ‘PBW 826’, New Wheat Variety with Better Heat Tolerance

    Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) introduced a new genetically stronger wheat variety (PBW 826), which has better heat tolerance as compared to other existing varieties available in the market after farmers experienced crop losses due to a sudden rise in temperature during the previous Rabi season. The variety was revealed on Tuesday during the two-day annual workshop for Rabi crops for research and extension professionals held at Manmohan Singh Auditorium.

  • Adulterated Coconut Oil Supply Increases in Kerela Ahead of Onam

    Kerafed, a top-level co-operative federation of coconut farmers in the southern Indian state of Kerela, has raised concern about the quality of Coconut oil and milk sold in the market. Complaints have been filed with the Commissionerate of the Food Safety Department seeking its intervention to avert the flow of impure coconut oil brought in tankers from Tamil Nadu and other states.

  • Trading Associations Demand Ban on Turmeric Futures

    The Marathwada Vidarbha Turmeric Trade Association has requested a ban on trading in turmeric futures on the NCDEX (National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange) and BSE in a letter to Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Choudhary.  The association claimed that some business owners and traders are profitable. The farmers of Maharashtra are suffering significant losses as a result of the prices being set based on the futures price, it claimed.

    The Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar, attended today's 10th Convocation of the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Izzatnagar (Bareilly), as the chief guest.
