IMD Issues Yellow & Orange Alerts in Tamil Nadu till Nov 26
India Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert in Tamil Nadu till 26th November (Friday). The weather forecasting agency said that Tamil Nadu will witness heavy rains on 23rd and 24th November and there will be extremely heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms on 25th & 26th November. The weather department has issued an orange alert warning for 25th & 26th November. In an official statement, IMD said that “A cyclonic circulation lies over “Southeast Bay of Bengal and the neighborhood in lower tropospheric levels. It is likely to move towards the west-northwestwards Tamil Nadu coast during the next 4 to 5 days.

Tea Industry Heading Towards the Crisis
The Tea Association of India (TAI) has expressed concern over the decline in the price & drop in production and cautioned that the industry could be heading towards a crisis. Secretary-General of TAI P. K Bhattacharya said that there has been a sustainable drop in the tea prices during November, both in West Bengal & Assam. The input prices have also seen a steep rise in the planters. It is said that the total projected crop in 2021 is 1,330 million kg, a decline from 1,400 million kg in 2020, due to poor weather conditions & pest-related issues.

Farm Laws Rollback Leaves Edible Industry In Sway
The government’s decision to repeal farm laws has left the question to mark on the National Mission on Oilseeds for which the edible oil industry has been clamoring for long. The program is aimed at increasing local production of groundnut, mustard & soybean to reduce the dependence on imported edible oils & decrease the import bill. The farm laws were expected to encourage the farmers to switch from grain to oilseeds farming.
