  • India Likely to be Severely Impacted by Water Scarcity By 2050, Says UN

    According to the report released ahead of the UN 2023 Water Conference, almost 80% of people living under water stress live in Asia, specifically northeast China, India, and Pakistan. "The global urban population facing water scarcity is projected to grow from 933 million (one-third of the global urban population) in 2016 to 1.7-2.4 billion people (one-third to nearly half of the global urban population) in 2050, with India projected to be the most severely affected," according to the report, which cited data. "Strong international structures are urgently needed to prevent the global water crisis from spiralling out of control," said UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay. Water is our collective future, and we must work together to share it equitably and sustainably.

Garuda Aerospace is the first-ever dual DGCA-approved drone startup that manufactures Make in India drones and trains young professionals in the field of drone technology. The startup recently raised $22 million, which is the largest ever Series A fundraising in the drone sector.   • UP Govt Plans to Replace 17% of Rice Cultivation with Millets and Oilseeds in The Coming Years

    Uttar Pradesh which happens to be the second largest producer of rice in the country has 60 lakh hectares of land across 70 districts under rice cultivation. The state government is planning to reduce this to 50 lakh hectares while getting the area reallocated for millets and oilseeds, especially during the Kharif season planning that the move can mark a radical change in the cropping pattern. Officials also said that the change would be brought through collaborative and extensive campaigns among the farmers. As per the sources, the state government is planning the promotion of the ‘exotic’ varieties of rice which could give higher returns. 

     

  • Haryana CM Announces Rs 15.5 Crore Compensation for Flooded Farmlands

    According to Wednesday's statement by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, "an amount of Rs 15.5 crore has been paid to the farmers who are unable to sow crops due to water logging." Khattar was speaking at a Wednesday Call to Attention motion addressing agricultural damage compensation. Regarding the opposition's allegations of irregularities and the lack of payment to many impacted farmers, Khattar responded, "We shall investigate if there was any delay in the payment to farmers. The guilty will face strict punishment. There won't be any injustice towards the farmers. Khattar continued, "This money has been given for a flooded area of around 23,000 acres," in further explanation of his response.
